Completely immersed in the atmosphere of the old west? At the Grand Canyon Western Ranch, you’ll find it: cowboys, campfire songs, horseback riding, and covered wagon rides. And that in the middle of nature, just a 2-hour drive from Las Vegas.
The Grand Canyon Western Ranch is located west of the Grand Canyon. At the ranch it is possible to book a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. The ranch is just a half-hour drive from the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a floating glass platform above the Canyon (see image below). A very nice place to stay near the Grand Canyon!

Hotel Grand Canyon Village
Grand Canyon Village is a unique place to stay. The town is located in Grand Canyon National Park, behind the park entrance. From your hotel you can drive to the rim of the Grand Canyon in a few minutes. Hiking is also possible via the South Rim Trail, an easy walk (over 3 km) via a largely paved road to Yavapai Point.
A hotel in Grand Canyon Village is, of course, beautiful. But the nearby town of Tusayan is also a very nice base for a visit to the South Rim. There are plenty of hotels in Tusayan, there is plenty of choice.
Tusayan is located near the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park and a few minutes’ drive from Grand Canyon National Park Airport. You will also find the Grand Canyon IMAX Theater in Tusayan, a large theater where a film/documentary about the Grand Canyon is shown.

Cheap Grand Canyon Hotel
What is the cheapest hotel in the Grand Canyon? We look at all hotels within an hour and a half drive at Grand Canyon Village. A hotel that very often comes out as the cheapest is Ash Fork Inn.
The 2-star motel is located on the route from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon in the town of Ash Fork. Former visitors to Ash Fork Inn also particularly appreciate the motel’s location and good value for money. For the modest prices (a few tens per night), don’t expect a nicely decorated hotel with a swimming pool. An excellent pit stop from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon is Ash Fork Inn though!
Hotel Grand Canyon North Rim
The Grand Canyon South Rim is very touristy. There are plenty of hotels available and a wide variety of tours are available. How different it is at the North Rim! This area, a 6-hour drive from Las Vegas, is much less accessible. It is also only open from mid-May to mid-October due to heavy snowfall in the winter months.
Unique to the North Rim is the tranquility and the amount of trees, which grow here due to the considerably higher location of the North Rim compared to the South Rim. The temperature at the North Rim is also much lower.
There is only one North Rim hotel, called Grand Canyon Lodge. This simple 2 star hotel is beautifully situated on the edge of the North Rim (see photo below). There is a restaurant, a shop and a camping site at the Grand Canyon Lodge.
Spend the night at the bottom of the Grand Canyon
At the bottom of the Grand Canyon, at the foot of the Colorado River, is the Phantom Ranch. The Phantom Ranch can only be reached on foot, with a donkey or with a raft (via the Colorado River).
The Phantom Range, which has more than 10 cabins, is believed to be one of the most difficult hotels in the US to reserve. Reservations are raffled to meet the high demand and to distribute reservations fairly. Curious how you can reserve a cabin? Read more about the Phantom Range Lottery here.
